Desk: At least 27 people were killed in clashes between rival militias in the
capital of Libya on Tuesday, and citizens were trapped in their houses with no
way to flee the mayhem, according to medical officials.
This year's fight in
Tripoli appeared to be the most fierce. Over 100 individuals were also hurt in
the battle, according to the Libyan Emergency Medicine and Support Center, a
medical organization that is sent in during natural catastrophes and armed
conflicts.
The UAE has urged all
sides to de-escalate, end violence, and settle differences via diplomacy and
peaceful means after expressing worry over recent events in Tripoli, the
capital of Libya.
In a statement,
Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar pleaded with all parties to put the
safety of citizens, government buildings, and property first and use the utmost
caution to put an end to the issue.
According to coverage
in the local media, the Special Deterrence Force and the 444 Brigades of
militiamen started fighting late on Monday. According to accounts, hostilities
erupted after Mahmoud Hamza, a senior commander of the 444 Brigade, was
purportedly captured by the opposing force at a Tripoli airport earlier in the
day.
