West Bengal is getting ready to ban keeping domestic birds as pets

Shampa Dutta, Voice 9, Kolkata Bureau: Jyotipriya Mallick, the state's minister of forests, stated that the ban-imposition procedure has begun and that a notification will be released shortly. Despite the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 prohibiting the keeping of Indian birds as pets, such as parakeets, mainas, muniyas, and peacocks, several birds were left off the list.

The West Bengal government is going to ban keeping all Indian bird species as pets, but experts have issued a warning and raised concerns about how it would be carried out.

Jyotipriya Mallick, the state's minister of forests, said, "Indian birds cannot be maintained at home, whether they are wild or tamed. They cannot be imprisoned. Birds should be released by the premises that own them. Although I will have to release the birds I keep at home. If someone is proven to be violating the rules, the relevant authorities would take strict action."
