Voice 9, National Desk: The Yoga Narasimhaswamy temple in Mysuru city has a long-standing tradition of distributing two lakh laddus to celebrate the New Year on January 1. This tradition was started almost 40 years ago by Bhashyam Swami and has been carried on without interruption since 1994.
Initially, 1000 laddus were
distributed, but over the years, the number has grown to two lakh. To ensure
the timely preparation of these traditional sweets, the temple has enlisted the
help of 60 expert confectioners who are working tirelessly under hygienic
conditions. The preparation of these laddus began on December 20 and will be
completed by December 31.
As of January 1, 2024, the
temple will distribute a total of 15,000 laddus to devotees who visit. These
laddus will be divided into two categories based on their weight and size. Some
laddus will weigh two kilograms and be quite large, while the remaining laddus
will weigh 150 grams.
The temple will open at 4 a.m.
on that day to conduct special rituals and pujas led by the priests. During
these ceremonies, the priests will offer prayers for the peace and welfare of
society. Furthermore, the main deity will be adorned with exquisite flowers
procured from Srirangam and Madurai, and the priests will perform the
'Sahasranama archane' to commemorate the occasion.
