Voice 9, News Desk: According to the government, a fresh batch of over 7,000 pilgrims left Jammu City early on Saturday for the twin base camps in the Valley to take part in the yearly Amarnath pilgrimage.
On July 1, two tracks—the traditional
48-kilometer Nunwan-Pahalgam path in Anantnag and the shorter 14-kilometer
Baltal route in Ganderbal—began the 62-day yearly pilgrimage to the
3,880-meter-high holy cave sanctuary of Amarnath in the south Kashmir
Himalayas.
Twenty-four people have died so far this
year on the yatra in the south Kashmir Himalayas, according to reports on
Friday. Five Amarnath pilgrims have passed away in the last 36 hours.
A sadhu was among the five victims who have
passed away since Thursday morning, according to them. According to the
officials, most of the pilgrims passed away from heart arrest.
According to them, one person died on the Baltal
path, while four people perished on the Pahalgam axis of the yatra. The
pilgrims came from Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. One
victim has not yet been named.
