Couple committed suicide by hanging themselves from the same fan

Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: The dead bodies of a husband and wife were discovered at a residence on Titas Road in East Rampura, the capital. Due to financial issues, the police first assumed that the couple committed suicide by hanging themselves from the same fan. The victims were discovered at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday in a tin-shed home on East Rampura Titas Road.

The deceased were identified as Jewel, 28, and his wife, Nasrin Akter, 22. Relatives claimed that both of them committed suicide by hanging themselves. Jewel's home is in Kurigram. His father's name is Azadur Khandaker. And Nasreen's house is in Nikli Upazila of Kishoreganj. His father's name is Siddiqur Rahman.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station, said the bodies of the husband and wife were recovered from the tin shed house on East Rampura Titas Road around 3:30 a.m. Later, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy. However, the incident is being investigated further. The cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem.

Jewel and Nasreen married three and a half years ago, according to relatives. They had one child, who died around 9–10 months ago.

Titu Mia, Nasreen's elder brother, stated that Jewel and Nasrin had been living in a leased property on Titas Road in East Rampura for the last 8–9 months. Titu Mia also resides in the residence.

On Tuesday, he stated that he got home from work at about 1:45 a.m. He then inquired of his wife and daughter whether they had seen Nasreen and Jewel open their room door since lunchtime. He didn't even notice she was cooking. Titu Mia then summoned them.

When no one responded, they cracked the door to their room through the landlord. He then walked inside and discovered Jewel and Nasreen hanging from the neck by two veils connected to a fan. They quickly called the police. Police arrived at the scene at 3:30 a.m. The CID crew then left. They removed the body from the hanging position and transported it to the mortuary.
