West Bengal: Two workers from Hooghly died after entering a sewage tank in Singur

Voice 9, Hooghly: Two employees died on Saturday in West Bengal's Hooghly area after entering a septic tank, according to authorities, in yet another incidence involving worker fatalities. According to the authorities, the two deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Ganesh Nourishment and Subrata Das. "The two employees arrived to take out a building board from a septic tank inside a home in the Ratanpur area of Singur. The tank was constructed two to three months ago, according to authorities.

Police said that one of the workers first entered the tank after opening the lid while his partner stood outside, quoting Chandana Maiti. "After waiting for a few seconds without hearing from his friend, he also entered the tank at a time when there was no response. However, not a single one of them emerged," according to the police.

However, firefighters and police officers protected the workers and rushed them to a hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead, according to the police. A police inquiry into the event has started.

An official with the fire department had a suspicion that methane gas may have accumulated within the tank and killed them. Methane gas is an invisible gas.
