Four thousand birds burned in the fire, destitute farmers

 


Voice 9, Dhaka Bureau: The fire that occurred at the bird farm of Md. Shubhra Sheikh in Surshail village of Chitalmari upazila, Bagerhat, resulted in the deaths of at least 4,000 different species of birds. 
The incident took place on Sunday, October 15, at 4 o'clock in the morning and caused a loss of approximately 15 lakh rupees. The fire was brought under control by Chitalmari Fire Service members and local residents. During the incident, three individuals were injured, namely Md. Shakeel Sultan Ranu (48), Md. Raju Faraji (28), and Md. Tanzil Sheikh (10). 
The fire is believed to have started with an electrical short circuit. Md. Shubhra Sheikh, a young entrepreneur, established the bird farm 7-8 years ago to address the issue of unemployment. He had worked hard to build a large bird farm, which housed at least 4,000 cockatiel and bajurika birds. 
The fire destroyed 4,000 birds, including cash worth 1 lakh 75 thousand 300 rupees, two houses, over 400 bird cages, several thousand chicks, and eggs. The total loss incurred was estimated to be around 15 lakh rupees. 
 Md. Abdul Adud, the officer of the Chitalmari Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, reported that they were able to control the fire and prevent further damage. However, the incident has left Md. Shubhra Sheikh and his family are destitute once again.
