Sangbad Voice 9, New Delhi: Two female
officers from the Indian Navy achieved a remarkable milestone on Thursday by
navigating across Point Nemo, the most isolated location on the planet, aboard
the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini. Lieutenant Commander Dilna K and
Lieutenant Commander Roopa A reached Point Nemo at 12:30 am IST during the third
segment of their voyage from Lyttelton, New Zealand, to Port Stanley, Falkland
Islands. Point Nemo, situated in the South Pacific, is recognized as the
Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility, approximately 2,688 kilometers away from the
nearest land.
This accomplishment represents a significant
achievement in the Navika Sagar Parikrama II mission, a circumnavigation
expedition undertaken by the two officers as part of India's naval exploration
efforts, according to a statement from the Indian Navy, as reported by ANI. The
Indian Navy shared on X, “#INSVTarini charts through the world's most isolated
waters! Lt. Cdr. Dilna K. & Lt. Cdr. Roopa A. cross Point Nemo—the Oceanic
Pole of Inaccessibility. A testament to resilience, courage & the spirit of
adventure.”
